Obituary of Gary R. Scialdone

Gary R. Scialdone

WEBSTER- July 24, 2024. Gary passed away peacefully on July 24th, surrounded by family and incredible staff & volunteers of the Shepherd Home. He was pre-deceased by his son, Zachary; mother, Angelina; nephew, Tony; and sister, Judy. He is survived by his son, Alex (Alex Christine); grandson, Augie; niece, Julie (Nick) Bisciotti; nephew, Tom (Lynn) Mack; great nieces and nephews, Victoria, Alex, Maggie, Emily, and Carleigh.

Gary was a dad. Out of every accomplishment and triumph of his life, being a dad was his most favorite. He loved his boys, Alex and Zach, and crafted every decision around what would be best for them. He raised them in a beautiful home in Webster; it had woods and a treehouse where they could be found for hours on end each summer. He made costumes so that Alex could be the Tin Man and Zach the Wicked Witch for Halloween; he even allowed Alex to turn their garage into a haunted house each year.

Gary was Grandpa. He loved his boy’s boy and spent every moment he could with Augie. He would sing to him, play with him, and cook for him. He would watch Augie for Alex and Alex and always tell them “It’s my privilege” when they thanked him. Augie loves his Grandpa, and Grandpa loved him.

Gary was resilient. He survived three bouts of cancer and the loss of his beloved son, Zach. He lived a life that could have been seen as marred by tragedy, but no one would have guessed that when they met him. He was humble, generous, and, above all else, kind.

Gary cared about everyone. He spent his career in the service of others and found a second calling in retirement by volunteering at the Shepherd Home in Penfield. His compassion in all situations was electric.

Gary’s hobbies spread joy. He taught himself guitar and enjoyed playing for others, though he would always downplay his talent. He once bought his nieces and nephew guitars and ukuleles for Christmas so they could play together. He discovered a passion for wood turning in his retirement and took great pleasure in distributing his finished pieces amongst friends and family.

The love he leaves behind and the grief of those who will miss him are a testament to the remarkable life he lived. We invite you to join us for calling hours on Friday, August 2 from 4-7pm at Falvo Funeral Home (1295 Frpt. Nine Mile Pt. Rd. Webster, NY 14580.) We will begin sharing memories and eulogies to remember Gary at 6:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Shepherd Home. The love and care that they show for their residents is beautiful to witness. Gary’s whole family will be eternally grateful to every staff member and volunteer that supported Gary on his final journey. (https://www.shepherdhome.org/memorial-donation/)
