Eugene W. “Pete” Hibbard
Pete is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Murphy) Hibbard; daughter, Jackie (Bill) Hart and son, Dennis (Deb) Hibbard; grandchildren, Zachary (Kaylynn Buck) and Casey Hibbard (Grayson Zenelovic); great grandchildren, Riley and Hayden; sister, Barbara (Dutch) Wollschleger; Sister-in-law, Marilyn (Bill) Luke; nieces and nephew, Kristine Abbott, Heidi Kerwin, Tom Luke, Holley Rock; cousins, Carl and George Eller, Tom, Russ, Al Hondorf; step-grandchildren, Margaret (Chris) Callahan, Peter (Alyssa) and John (Emily) Hart; their children, Lucy, Connor, Jack, Eric, Molly, Rose, Clare.
Kathy and Pete met at Penfield High School and married in 1963. Pete enlisted in the Navy and after bootcamp he was assigned to the USS Lexington. They lived in Pensacola FL, then Washington D.C. Following his Navy service, Pete was a dedicated Rochester Fire Fighter. Early in his career, he earned his Fire Science Degree, while also working part time at Brighton Mower. Pete held various RFD positions, retiring after ultimately reaching the rank of Deputy Chief with over 25 years of service.
Being from a generation of gearheads, he typically did his own repairs. Pete restored a ’59 Corvette, and a classic Chevy truck. He had a knack of being able to fix just about anything including restoring an 1850’s farmhouse.
While always a fisherman (with bait in the fridge or minnows in the bucket), after retirement, Pete learned to love the game of golf which was one reason Pete and Kathy started wintering in The Hamptons, Auburndale FL. While there, they made many friends and even recruited NY friends to join them.
Pete and Kathy have always enjoyed the company of their special friends around Sodus Bay, The Hamptons, and especially Firefighter colleagues and spouses.
Pete will be lovingly remembered by all that knew him, especially for his sense of humor and unwavering congeniality.
