Obituary of Alerina Scalzo
Peacefully passed away at the age of 103, surrounded by her family.
Her life journey exemplified the enduring virtues of faith, courage, and unwavering hard work. Alerina was born in 1920 in Calabria, Italy. Driven by a desire to provide a better life for her family, she initiated and navigated the complex immigration process. At the age of 40, accompanied by her husband and their four children, she left Calabria and settled in the U.S. Despite not knowing the language, Alerina accepted any job available, determined to help support her family. She also worked tirelessly at home, with steadfast commitment to her family’s well-being.
Alerina is survived by her son Sam (Lynn), daughter Dora (Robert) Hill, daughter-in-law Sharon, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Joseph, her son John, and daughters Grace, Rosa, and Carmela.
Calling hours Friday 11AM-12 Noon with a Funeral Mass to follow, both at St. Frances Cabrini Parish at Annunciation Church (1754 Norton Stret Rochester, NY 14609). Donations in Alerina’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
