Obituary of Ross J. Dayton Sr.
He Believed.
Ross Joseph Dayton, 68, of Irondequoit, NY, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2024. Born in Bohemia, NY, in 1955, he was the beloved son of Francis and Jean Dayton, and the youngest of their five children, including Francis, Kevin, Kim, and his twin brother Rod. Ross attended Connequot High School, where he played on the golf team, a sport he was passionate about, both as a player and a fan.
Ross is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Jean, his sister, Kim, and his son-in-law, Steve Oas.
He often said “Life is not a solo flight”. Ross met Therese O’Sullivan in 1977, and they married six months later in Merrick, NY. He was a devoted father to Ross Joseph Dayton Jr. (Sarah), Katherine Boss (Timothy), Eileen Dayton (Steve Oas), and Lauren Dayton. Ross was also a beloved "Papa" to his grandchildren Reagan, Gavin, Ellie, Imogen, Caroline, Charlie, and Sullivan.
Ross approached life with a dry sense of humor, and had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel special. His proudest accomplishment was his family, whom he cherished above all else. Ross also had a passion for gardening, particularly his tomato garden, which brought him great joy.
Ross will be deeply missed by his extended Dayton and O'Sullivan families, friends, and all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and kindness that will be remembered forever.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 15, from 3pm - 7pm at Falvo Funeral Home 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Pt. Rd. Webster, N.Y. 14580. On Saturday, his Funeral Mass will be held at 11am at St. Kateri in Christ the King Church 445 Kings Highway South Rochester, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Sunset House 3746 St. Paul Blvd. Rochester, N.Y. 14617 in Ross' name.
