Obituary of Giuseppe Mistretta

Giuseppe Mistretta

Giuseppe “Joe” Mistretta of Webster, NY passed away on November 28, 2023, peacefully surrounded by his family at age 85.

Predeceased by his sister Calogera Salerno and her husband Angelo; brother-in-law Giuseppe Milici; and other beloved family in the US and Italy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maria (Pitti) Mistretta; Son and daughter-in-law, Cataldo “Aldo” and Melanie Mistretta; grandchildren Julia and Gianni; Brother and sister-in-law Santo and Pina; Brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Salvatore and Nina Pitti, Antonina Milici, Giovanna Mungo; many nieces and nephews.

Giuseppe was born in Santa Caterina Villarmosa, a small village in central Sicily on December 5th, 1937.  Trained as a carpenter from a young age, he lived in Sicily and then later Milan until he immigrated to Rochester in 1970.  A short time thereafter he met his future wife, Maria, in a night school English class.  A true embodiment of the “American Dream”, he came here with little but worked hard, first as a skilled carpenter and then at AC Delco, to build a happy life for his wife and son.  A kind and friendly soul, Giuseppe was always quick to strike up a conversation with anyone and make new friends.  He was a proud Italian American and a proud father and grandfather.  He loved his family, traveling and his wife’s wonderful cooking.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 3 from 2-5pm at Falvo Funeral Home (1295 Frpt. Nine Mile Pt. Rd. Webster.) On Monday, please meet the family in St. Rita's Church at 12:30pm for Giuseppe's Funeral Mass. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Stroke Association in his memory.
