Ruth Humphrey

Obituary of Ruth S. Humphrey

Sassy and feisty for 100 years, Ruth crossed into Heaven on November 7, 2023.  Ruth is survived by 3 loving daughters, Barbara Van Inwegen (Richard), Merrie Lou Nagel, Carolyn Eisenman (David); grandchildren Jason (Andrea), Kevin (Julie) and Eric Van Inwegen; David Nagel (Dawn); Carly Eisenman (Kris Pratt) and Jackie Eisenman; 8 great grandchildren.  Forever in our hearts.

Ruth was a devoted mother of 3, grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 8 (Samuel, Joshua, Nicholas, Ava, Lorelei, Phoebe, Scarlette and Vivienne), and was proud to be a Registered Nurse since 1945,  Ruth retired from St. John's Nursing Home in 1985, and volunteered for many years at the Strong Cardiac Rehab Program facility, then at the gift shop at St. John's Meadows.  Her hobbies included baking, cooking, playing card games and BINGO, quilting, sewing, knitting and walking outdoors.  Ruth loved flowers and her favorites were the bright, fall colors of Gerbera daisies.  Ruth was known for canning tomatoes fresh from her garden, freezing fresh-picked berries, her delicious pies, pancakes, cookies, Sunday dinners, and spaghetti sauce, and delighted in preparing memorable meals for her family.  Ruth used the Rochester Public Library system extensively, loved reading mysteries, worked on crossword puzzles daily, and adored watching cooking shows while sipping a fresh cup of coffee and enjoying something sweet to go with it.

Ruth will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2024 in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.

Donations in Ruth's honor may be directed to UR Medicine Paliative Care Unit 4-1200, Covenant United Methodist Church, or the Rochester Public Library.
