Obituary of Richard Zona

Zona, Richard A. Sr. Rochester: October 18, 2013. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Andrew Zona; brothers, Frank and Albert Zona; sisters, Jennie Salem, Ann Reina, Betty Malta, Helen Antonitto and Norma Griffo. Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia Lillian Zona; son, Richard Andrew Jr. (Barbara Jean) Zona; daughter, Barbara Anne Bianchi of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Regina Marie Zona (Patricia Smith) of Yonkers, NY, Patrick Richard (Jennifer) Bianchi of New York, NY, Jeffrey Evans Bianchi of Buford, GA, Allyson Marie Bianchi of Marietta, GA; adorable puppy, "Jorgie"; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born in Rochester, NY, July 1925, on his 17th birthday, Richard enlisted in the US Navy Armed Guard and served as a Gunner on several Liberty Ships during WW II. Richard, a well known trumpet player, formed the popular Dick Zona Quartet and for over 60 years provided music for all types of occasions in the Rochester area. His initial occupation, after he left Navy services, was a Baker for Bond Bread Co. and subsequently a Supervisor for Wegman's main bakery from which he retired in 1983. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 7-9 PM at Falvo Funeral Home, 1395 North Goodman St. On Wednesday, please meet the family at Peace of Christ Parish at St. Ambrose for his Memorial Mass at 10 AM. Entombment of his ashes will be held privately. Special thanks to Donna and Nick Riola, Mary Foley, Ann and Louie Salem, Natalie and Pat Maley, Geraldine and Tom Lyons for their care and consideration throughout Dad's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's name to School of the Holy Childhood, Rochester, NY.
