Obituary of Maria L. Zimmer

Maria Lacancellera Zimmer

June 3, 1928- November 21, 2024

Survived by 2 Sons, John (Anne) and James (Karen) Zimmer, 5 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren.   Marie was a lifelong resident of Rochester, a graduate of East High School and employee of Eastman Kodak.  Her extended family was truly dear to her, and she enjoyed visits with them, weekend cousins’ breakfasts at the Bayfront, dinners out and regular poker and bridge playing with life- long friends.

She was an avid knitter of many baby blankets and newborn hats, which were gifted to relatives, friends and local NICU of the Golisano Children’s Hospital.  Marie also was an avid gambler and could make the most of her budget, lasting as long as possible on any visit to the local casino slot machines.  She and her husband Bill took several trips to Las Vegas where she developed her skills and interests.

Her friendships extended long into her life, and her friend’s children maintained the relationships with casino trips, making ravioli, and any invitation to get together.  “Never turn down an invitation” proved to be her mantra in later years when she’d respond to a “10-minute notice” for any invitation to go out for any company or fun.

In her later years she lived at Cherry Ridge community where she made many friends, played many games of poker and bingo, and touched the hearts of her caregivers with her genuine “Thank you” and sweet smiles.

If you ever sent her a card, know that in her final hours, they were all re-read to her.  Thank you for always keeping her in your greetings.
