Obituary of Dinkenesh Ainshet

In loving memory of:
Dinkenesh Ainshet
(February 5, 1954–November 2, 2024)

Dinkenesh Gebru Ainshet, affectionately known as "Dinky" or "Dada" by her loved ones passed away peacefully on November 2nd, 2024, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with kidney failure. Dinky was born in Adiet, Tigray, Ethiopia raised by her grandmother, Brinesh "Enay" Beyene, due to the untimely passing of her mother, Letihete Weldegergis, at a young age. In 1989, her sister Allefesh brought Dinkenesh and her children to America to provide them a better life.

Dinky spent the latter years of her life in Rochester, NY. Early on she was a caretaker for her family raising her children and grandchildren.
Later she went on to work in housekeeping at Genesee and General hospital. Above all, Dada had an unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. She would go to great lengths to ensure she could spend quality time with them, creating memorable days filled with fun, laughter, and the simple joys of childhood. Whether it was a day at the pool, the mall or bowling, she made sure every moment was special.

Her love for life was reflected in the little things. Dinky was obsessed with perfumes that could only be rivaled by her love for gold jewelry, always adorning herself with the most stunning pieces that perfectly complemented her zuria. She took pride in her culture and radiated beauty in everything she wore. If there was anything Dinky loved more was a good cup of coffee and a solid landline, a good chat and a strong brew made her day a delight.

She adored comedy movies and had a knack for sharing silly moments that would leave everyone around her cackling. She relished at the opportunity to hop on a Greyhound bus and head off to the casino, always chasing the thrill of the next slot spin with a smile and a laugh. If the trip ended with a buffet spread she'd be complete.

Dinky was a woman with a big heart who had a gift for making everyone around her feel at ease and loved, simply by being her playful self. If you spent time with her, you were guaranteed a good laugh-there was never a dull moment in her company likely due to her infectious laughter or possibly her dramatic tendencies. Dinky had a heart full of joy but this world isn't kind to people with this quality, so she faced many challenges.

While she may no longer be with us, her spirit will continue to live on in the stories we share, the joy she gave us, and the laughter that will forever echo in our hearts. Rest in peace, Dinky, and until we meet again, we'll cherish the memories you left us with.

Dinkenesh was preceded in death by grandson Joseph, brothers Reda & Hagos; she leaves to cherish her children Terhase, Semienawit, Abebe, & Alda; her sister Allefesh; grandchildren Abraham, David, Helen, Lisa, Anthony, Normarys, Jomian, Norymar, Norma, Amaraye, & Ermias; nephews Ricardo, Glenn, Biruk, Brehane, Ricky, Glenn Jr., Caleb, & Kirubel; nieces Genet, Sarah, & Hlina; great grandchildren Novi; in-laws Solomon, Felix, & Lakeaya.

The family, friends, and loved ones of Dinkenesh wishes to express our sincere appreciation for all the prayers, calls, messages, visits, & many other acts of kindness shown during this difficult time.
