Obituary of Carol S. Vigren

Carol S. Vigren passed away peacefully in Webster, NY on August 24, 2024 at age 82.

Carol was a kind, thoughtful, loving wife, mother, grandma and friend. While she was tiny, she was mighty in mental strength and an unfailing optimistic attitude. She possessed amazing cooking, entertaining, Bridge-playing, decorating, needlepointing, pie-making, dog-loving, and church-going all done with grace and a fun sense of humor. Carol had a knack of making you feel completely welcome and loved through her hospitality and gift-giving. She never forgot a birthday or holiday.

Carol started her walk on this planet in Elkhart, IN, where, as a baton twirler in the band, she met David, who became her prince in their fairytale story together.  They were married during Dave’s time in grad school at Indiana University in Bloomington. They moved to Rochester, NY when Dave accepted a job with Kodak. There, they gave birth to their daughter, Suzanne. He was assigned a position in Atlanta, GA and that is where they welcomed their son, Mark. Soon after, they moved back to the Rochester area where Dave eventually became the Treasurer of Kodak and then the CEO of ESL Savings and Loan. His successes were due in large part to the amazing woman to whom he was married.

While Carol battled MS and a variety of different cancers, she persevered and never complained about her lot in life. Instead, she was more interested in other people’s lives with a big focus on her six grandchildren.

She will always be remembered as the sharp-dresser and chocolate-loving woman that she was. Even at the end, her caregivers mentioned her beautiful sweaters and delicious chocolates.

She was predeceased by her husband David L., her brother, Wayne and her mother Lois Lechlitner. She is survived by her children Suzanne (Todd) Fess and Mark (Marcy) Vigren; Grandchildren Ryan, Emily, Demi (Ian), Hope, Cecilia and Colby; Sisters-in-law Megan Lechlitner & Pat Shadinger; niece, nephew, and many dear friends.

On Thursday August 29th, calling hours 9:30-10:30AM with a service directly to follow, both at Falvo Funeral home, 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Pt. Rd. (Rte. 250) Webster, NY 14580.
