Survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Debra (Black) Nelson; his children Rafiq (Wendy) Nelson, Keisha Black, Lacresha (Anthony) Scott, and Catherine Nelson; Grandchildren Mark, Joshua, Savannah, Shanacia, Anthony Jr., Negus, Cierra, Dorian, Cedric Jr., Cori, Devin; 3 Great-grandchildren, his brother Brian (Connie) Nelson, Brother-in- law Edwin Geter, many nieces, nephews, dear friends and church family.

Sullivan retired after many years as an Individual & Group Therapist in Rochester, NY. He was passionate about education as throughout his life he earned a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, a Masters degree in Theology/Counseling, a Masters degree in Behavioral Science, and a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).

Throughout his career he was a senior therapist at the Dr. George C. Simmons Counseling and Support Center, a Clinical Consultant at Genesee Hospital Department of Psychiatry, Clinical Consultant at SWAN/The Bridge, Staff Counselor at Restart Substance Abuse Services, and Staff Counselor at the Urban League of Rochester.

Sullivan is a former bodybuilder and was a 4th degree Eagle Claw Sensei in martial arts. He was very passionate about this art while teaching and inspiring others.

Above all, he was a servant of the Lord. He was a faithful, active, ordained Elder of Faith Christian Center Church in Rochester, NY

He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He loved spreading the gospel and didn’t mind sharing his powerful testimony with all that would listen.

In addition to being a proud husband, father, and grandfather, Sullivan was an avid reader and chess player. He loved gardening, watching and collecting movies. As much as he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren karate moves, and shopping, he mostly enjoyed taking weekend trips and spending quiet moments with the love of his life at the Lake and having a great meal cooked by his “Chef” (His Honey Deb).

Calling hours Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 12-1pm with a service beginning at 1pm at the Joy Community Church (890 N. Goodman St. Rochester, NY 14609).
