Obituary of Megan K. Overfield

Megan K. Overfield, 26, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 11th, 2024.

Having lived with two rare syndromes, she was lovingly known as doubly rare. Megan lived with a rare seizure disorder known as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, which was secondary to her rare genetic anomaly known as PURA Syndrome. She deeply touched many lives in her short time on earth. Megan had a radiant smile, a hearty laugh, and her quiet presence was felt and loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed counting and numbers, zippers, all varieties of music, books and reading with her sister, playing beach ball catch with her Dad, and singing the “Here Come the Sixers” song with her Mom.

The mark Megan’s gentle soul left on this world makes it a better place for those of us that she leaves behind: her parents, Dane & Mary Overfield, her sister and brother-in law, Emily & Nick Boyd, her grandparents, Ed & Mary Ann Overfield and Carol Hilbrich, her sweet pup Tanner, as well as many proud aunts, uncles, and cousins. Megan also leaves behind her extended families at The Mary Cariola Center and her CDS-Monarch group home on Allen Road in Penfield. Megan impacted everyone with whom she came in contact and was able to speak volumes without ever saying a word. Megan left final lasting gifts of life through organ donation.

Megan will be greeted in heaven by her maternal grandfather, Michael Hilbrich and her maternal uncles & aunt Michael & Jodie Hilbrich and Danny Hilbrich.

Megan’s family extends their deep gratitude to the entire Strong MICU Unit 8-1600, especially Dr. Stella Savarimuthu & Nurse Dan Housel, for their compassionate care of Megan.  Kind thanks as well to Melissa Adams of Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, for supporting Megan and her family through the organ donation process.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to two agencies who have provided unconditional support to Megan and her family over the years.

The Mary Cariola Center, attn: Karen Zandi, 1000 Elmwood Ave, Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14620,  https://www.marycariola.org/donate-now

or CDS-Monarch - Allen Rd Home, attn: LaQuasia Richardson, 1326 Allen Rd, Penfield, NY 14526.

If you donate, please note “In Memory of Megan Overfield”. Megan’s family will meet with the organizations to help choose the best way to support the individuals they serve.

“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”

Calling hours will be Friday May 24th from 11am-2pm with a celebration of life service immediately following. Both will be held at Falvo Funeral Home 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Pt. Rd. Webster, NY 14580. Please wear bright colors to honor our ray of sunshine!
