Obituary of Eugene Cariola
Eugene Cariola, 82, of Rochester, NY, peacefully passed away on August 25, 2023, in Saint Louis, MO, surrounded by his loving family.
Eugene was an extraordinary soul, embodying a unique blend of kindness, humor, quirkiness, intellect, compassion, competitiveness, and athleticism. His one-of-a-kind personality and unique perspective left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Eugene's gift for humor and his remarkable ability to bring laughter to others will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, MaryAnn Cariola, his son Michael Cariola and cherished daughter-in-law Tina Cariola, his adored daughter Natalie Cariola, his grandson Tyler Cariola, and his beloved granddaughter Hayden Cariola. Eugene was preceded in death by his loving parents, Louis and Florence.
Eugene's educational journey was nothing short of remarkable, culminating in his impressive academic achievements of obtaining a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati. His sense of duty led him to serve in the Air Force after which he dedicated his entire career to the federal government; he retired with distinction from the Department of Defense. Moreover, Eugene's passion for imparting knowledge led him to teach at the University of Missouri - St. Louis’s esteemed graduate engineering program and Washington University’s undergraduate mathematics program.
In his leisure time, Eugene reveled in the camaraderie of men's softball, embracing his role as a dedicated team player. An avid sports enthusiast, he found immense joy in every aspect of competition.
A private family ceremony will be held at the cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life, open to all who wish to honor Eugene's memory. The Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 12:15 pm at Proietti's Italian Restaurant, located at 980 Ridge Road, Webster, NY 14580.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family kindly requests contributions be made to Khan Academy in Eugene's honor. Eugene fervently believed in the transformative power of education and would be deeply touched to support such a meaningful cause. Donations can be made here in memory of Eugene Khan Academy.
