Obituary of Stephen A. Galante

Stephen Galante died August 17, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Steve had recently undergone a kidney transplant after a long and private struggle with kidney failure. Complications deprived Stephen of enjoying the benefits of a long life, but he endured all the trials silently and with his characteristic positive attitude. Few people knew the battles that he fought without complaint. His courage is an inspiration that will be his legacy.

Born July 12, 1959 in Rochester, NY, Stephen was the youngest child of Ruth and Nicholas Galante. He attended Annunciation School, Bishop Kearney High School, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St John Fisher. He had a career in computer programming, but his life was centered around his devotion to family.

He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Joseph Galante and sister Annette Galante Wolkonowski. He is survived by his sister Peg Piazza Penberg and her husband Jerry, his Uncle Dominic Piazza and his wife June, and Annette’s husband Ed Wolkonowski. In addition he is survived by his nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom he cherished. These include Nick Galante and his wife Jessica and their children, Tony Galante and his wife Kara and their children, Niki Penberg and her husband Luke, Jared Penberg and his son, Keri Wolkonowski DeWitt and her husband Jeremy and their daughter, and David Wolkonowski and his wife Aubrey.  Steve took pride in them and was a constant bestower of birthday presents and attendee at sport and music events.

There is a warm glow that Steve leaves behind in our hearts.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 1460 Ridge Rd, Webster on Monday, August 28 at Noon. Following the funeral, Steve will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester.
