Obituary of Joe Louis Close

Joseph aka Joe Louis Close was called home to the Lord’s kingdom on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the age of 83.

Joe was a loving and fun spirited man. Joe was survived by his wife, Mary Ann Close (Magar), his sister Maebelle, his 7 children and one stepson, Eric (Shannon Close), Reggie (Shannon Butler), Susanne (David Switzer), Bernard Akins, Curtis Akins, Gloria (Kenneth Clark) John Durak (Jeanine), and Rose. Joe had 15 grandchildren, Desiree, Xiomara, Jamin, Casimer, Shaine, Monica, Neveah, Jaxon, Kenny Jr, Zack, Samantha, and Danny.  He also had several great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was predeceased by his father Henry Close, Lucy Close (Stephen) and 11 siblings. 

Joe moved to Rochester in 1969 from Bainbridge GA, and worked at Genesee Brewery for over 20 years before he retired in 1998. Joe touched many lives and was loved and respected by everyone he came in touch with. He loved spending time with his family. In his earlier years, he played guitar in a band, he enjoyed listening to his gospel music, and playing pool. Joe loved his sports, especially the NY Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and LA Lakers.

Calling hours Monday, September 26, 2022 from 4-7 pm at Falvo Funeral Home, 1395 N. Goodman St. Rochester, NY 14609. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
