Last Friday, as the sun was rising, the sun set on the life of my uncle and godfather, Tony Giancursio. Though we knew his time was near and we are sad today, we know he was blessed with a long life of 95 years.
Having been around for more than half of his life, there are things I will always remember about him:
His “Uncle Tony Birthday Parties”with all of his nieces and nephews, especially the one at the pizza parlor where we got to try beer and the one with the piñata hung from a tree in the park!
How he shared his love of music as he played the keyboard and Hawaiian guitar
When he gave my special Aunt Eileen a ride on his motorcycle
His pride at having been stationed on the Midway during his time in the Navy at the end of WWII
How much he enjoyed his job working in the DA offices as a courier after he retired from hairdressing and sales
And lastly, know much he loved sharing stories about his Italian family, his double wide trailer in Clearwater and all his new toys he had through his many years
So today, I am sad that he is gone, but I know that he lived a long life doing what he wanted. So riposare in pace, Uncle Tony. Eri amato.
