Mr.McGrath was my freshman homeroom teacher and my history teacher, I’m about to graduate college. I remember in the back of the room he had a wall dedicated to his travels with his wife, he was very proud of it. I remember he was a very kind man, I cut my hair off my freshman year and it was really scary to come to school, I assume he could tell and he encouraged me by telling me it was cool and that his wife had done the same thing years prior and that I should feel liberated. That really helped me and has stuck with me all of these years and I’m sure he never knew. He was such a great human being, he came to my mind today and I just don’t want anyone to forget about him. You are truly missed Mr.McGrath …

It is not, I think, unusual for a father to question the qualification of a suitor for his daughter’s hand. I had lofty hopes and expectations. Patrick exceeded these hopes.
He was a compassionate, kind, and patient man. His sense of humor complemented his intellectual depth and brought me many moments of joy. All that, and a Yankee fan too – wow.
His desire to explore the depth and breadth of human cultural diversity would mesh well with my daughter Jackie’s interest. Their adventures would provide Lynn and I with many informative and entertaining stories and pictures.
As a husband he proved to be an excellent advisor. He gave wings to Jackie’s dreams and brought comfort to her when she faced the frustration that life brings to us all.
He became one of our greatest blessings. His example has been permanently imprinted on our souls.
Rest in peace dear friend, ‘our son’.

Here's how I remember Pat:
His droll sense of humor. His Dad and I went fishing on Goose Bay one morning and had a great time. We paddled into the fog, and when the fog parted, a bald eagle landed on a rock in front of us. Jeff hooked a bass, and it jumped over his kayak. It was a super morning, and when we returned, Pat was sitting at the breakfast table. We were excited and proceeded to tell him our story: the fog, the eagle, the bass, etc. When we were done, Pat looked up with his trademark grin and said 'Sure ... and after that Elvis and Judge Crater paddled by in a canoe.'
His encyclopedic knowledge of history. I hated arguing with Pat because he could always counter my bs with actual facts.
His dedication to teaching. When Pat talked about teaching you could always tell how important the kids were to him. He was like the best teacher you had as a kid and the teacher that you always wanted your kid to have.
His good nature. He and Jacki were always fun to be with. Whenever we were in New York City they took us to places we never would have seen otherwise. The fact that several of them were saloons reflects more on me than it does on them. Jacki, you're not off the hook. Marilyn and I still expect to be ushered around when we're in the city.
Pat will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The only consolation is that he and Jacki made the most of his time here.
