Obituary of Michela DiRisio

Michela "Mickey" DiRisio

Spencerport: Passed away suddenly on January 8, 2022. at age 84. Predeceased by her husband Giulio; Her brothers, Sam and Joe; Sister, Carol. Survived by children, Matthew (Lori), Lucyann (Michael) Bonanno, Mark (Dawn), and Dean (Barb); Grandchildren, Giuliana (Chris), Angela, Alyssa, Michael, Giulio, Dominic, Michele, Lucas, and Giulio; Great-grandson, Jesse.

“ Michela “Mickey” Trapani was born on October 12, 1937 in Villalba, Sicily. After immigrating to the US, she met and fell in love with her husband Giulio DiRisio. The two were married on July 2, 1960. They immediately began their family and went on to have their 4 children- Matthew, Lucy, Mark, and Dean. She then became a beloved Nonna to 9 grandchildren- Giuliana, Angela, Alyssa, Michael, Giulio B, Dominic, Michele, Lucas, and Giulio D. She was also a Great Nonna to Jesse.

In addition to being the matriarch of the DiRisio family, she was also an important and pivotal person in so many other people’s lives, blood related or not. Mickey’s giving and loving demeanor made everyone feel like family, and she had a way of making everyone feel like her favorite. Her heart was massive, and she had more than enough room to share it with everyone she encountered.

Mickey also had hobbies and pastimes that brought her immense joy. Her green thumb was impeccable, and she enjoyed growing houseplants and working outside in her garden and yard. She took that hobby and made it into her job when she opened her floral shop. She was also a self-taught seamstress, making the drapes for all of her homes, and took pleasure in helping people to hem and mend their clothing when needed. She loved to go out dancing with her ladies and was always a hit at a party. She could go shopping all day and loved to spoil the people around her with gifts. She was a wonderful cook and was in her happiest form when entertaining guests in her home. She hosted a Sunday dinner almost every week. Everyone was invited!

Above all these things, Mickey was a fierce woman and truly one of a kind. She was unapologetically herself in every way, and people were very drawn to her because of this. Always dressed to the nines with her hair and makeup done, she could go from the store to a party without needing to stop home. She embodied confidence in every way, all 84 years of her life.

She will be deeply missed by so many. We love you.”
