Domenica (Mae) Doherty
Born on October 1, 1932, our beloved mother, Mae, joined her husband, mother, father, sister, and brother in heaven on January 1, 2022. She passed peacefully with family by her side.
She is predeceased by her husband, Philip Doherty Jr.; her parents, Vincenzo and Antonina Gianvecchio; her brother and sister-in law, Tony and Connie Gianvecchio; and her sister Teresa Gianvecchio. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Ann Doherty Mayer (Don Mayer) of Yorba Linda, California and Antoinette Doherty (Karl Kippola) of Rockville, Maryland; five grandchildren, Ryan Mayer (Cassee Mayer) of Corona, California, Keith Mayer of Salt Lake City, Utah, Aaliyah Mayer and Matt Mayer, both of Yorba Linda, California, Wally Kippola of Rockville, Maryland; one great-grandchild, Mylee Mayer of Corona, California; five sisters-in-law, Eileen McColgan of Dedham, Massachusetts, Anne Mahoney and Jean Doherty both of The Villages, Florida, Cathleen Harney of West Melbourne, Florida, and Betty Poleet of Stoneham, Massachusetts; nieces Annette Van Savage, Lucille Bo, and Constance Eisele, all of Rochester, New York, and Terri Gianvecchio-Sherwood of Bradenton, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Born and raised in Rochester, New York, upon graduating from high school, Mae joined the Sisters of Saint Joseph at Saint Mary’s in Oswego, New York. Known as Sister Rose Vincent, Mae served the Sisters of Saint Joseph for five years. Upon leaving the convent, Mae taught elementary school at Saint Cecelia’s School in Rochester, New York. Shortly afterwards, she met her husband and they married in 1958. While married, Mae lived in Chicago, Illinois; Independence, Missouri; and several places in and around New Orleans, Louisiana, most notably Gretna. Mae was then a resident of Hightstown, New Jersey for thirty-seven years and most recently a resident of Anaheim Hills, California. While living in Hightstown, she was an active member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, where she sang with the choir and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She traveled with the choir to sing at The Vatican, where she also was blessed to see Pope John Paul II.
Our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our beautiful mother. Her sweet smile and kind nature will be sorely missed and her absence leaves a hole in our family that can never be filled. Heaven has gained another angel. We love you, Mom.
A private service with family is planned for Saturday, January 15.
