Obituary of Stylianos Tegas
Stylianos Tegas passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on May 16, 2021, at the age of 84. He is predeceased by his parents, Micheal and Paraskevi, sisters-in-law Anastasia (Van) Stathe, Ekaterini Styliadis, and Kasiani Liapis. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margarita; brother George (Marika); three children Michael (Barbara), Vasilios (Carol), and Ioannis (Brooke); seven grandchildren Andrew, Lindsay (Zachary) Goggins, Stylianos, Ryan, Margarita, Paraskeva, and Christiano; two great-grandchildren Liam and Dylan Goggins; sister-in-law Maria (Pavlos) Christidis, and brothers-in-law Sotirios Styliadis and Konstandinos Liapis, as well as many nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces. Stylianos was dearly loved by many friends and extended family.
Stylianos was born January 1st, 1937 in the village of Belkameni in north Greece, Europe. He relocated to the newly built village of Drosopigi nearby after his birthplace was burnt down during WWII. He married the love of his life Margarita Mihou in 1961 and had three sons. Stylianos was a loving husband, father, and “Papou”, humble in his origins and always providing the best life for his family. Between 1962 and 1964 he and his wife worked in Germany while his parents cared for their children. He then immigrated to the United States in 1968, subsequently opening and running the Golden Boys Family Restaurant in Webster, alongside his partner Peter Hantes, and then his brother-in-law Konstantino Liapis, until his retirement in 2007. Post-retirement, Stylianos helped his sons by serving as “General Manager” of Long Pond Family Restaurant, working in his enormous garden at his home in Fairport, visiting and maintaining his home in Drosopigi, and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm, followed by the Trisagion Service at 7pm, on Wednesday, May 19, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 962 East Avenue, Rochester NY 14607. His funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 20 at 11am, at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in his loving memory.
