I was sitting alone thinking of people who had made an impact in my life and decided to look up Judge Mark and saw he had passed away. Though it has been around 5 years I offer my condolences and I wanted to share how he impacted my life. I was 16 when I stood in front of him in his court room in 1976 and he was fair with the decision. I left NY for California in 1977 which I was allowed but no one transferred the paperwork so when I came to NY for my brothers wedding I was pulled over for a taillight and then arrested for violating probation. At 20 I stood in front of Judge Mark again and I had never been in trouble since and I had always worked and never missed any time, also numerous people sent letters in support of me. While the state wanted me incarcerated he said I had rehabilitated myself and saw no need and told me that if I would get my HS diploma he would reduce my restitution to 1/3 and I did and so did he. I went into the U.S. Navy in 1983 and served for 6 years, I have been married for 38 years with 4 sons and 8 grandchildren. Two sons have served in the Military. One works with troubled families as a counselor and one is starting his dissertation for his PHD at Vanderbilt in Ethics. I have been blessed by God and impacted by several people. I doubt I would have the family and life I have had if it were not for his belief in what he saw in me that day. He could have easily sent me to jail and his decision to give me a chance truly impacted my life. This was rather long and I hope his family will see it, I wish I could have told him. We all have a responsibility to help others and make a difference in this world. I am always trying to do so, Judge Mark certainly did!

Dear Laurie,
I am so sorry I am late with this message. I was out of town at the time of your Dad's entry into his Eternal Home.
A wonderful, kind, compassionate gentleman who thought about others before himself.
I remember well his time at Camp Good Days and how he loved to give the children candy and special prizes.
Please know you and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
Peace and prayers,
Sister Francella(Fran)

A Tribute In Memory of Donald J. Mark to The Mark Family
I knew Donald J. Mark not only as a Marine Corps judge and a New York State Supreme Court Justice - but primarily for his fellowship in the annual POW/MIA Vietnam Veterans marathon runs. And out of this relationship came a host of big-hearted generosity I never imagined. His tasty home-cooked dinners - after our runs through Monroe County in Rochester - his offers to accommodate me in his home after those gruelling runs - our long-distance telephone conversations and our exchange of Christmas cards.
But - above all - his towering strength of character to inspire and show by example that the enduring application of the principles of The Marine Corps - the eternal belief that the defense of - the protection of - and the preservation of The United States of America - is worth dying for.
How patriotic!
How American!
Thank you - Donald J. Mark - for an exceptional life and the fond memories.
It was an honour and a privilege to have known you.
God Bless You
Semper Fidelis

It was an honor to work his court, I did many details in there and a few trials.
The Judge always expedited things for the deputies and treated us with the upmost respect.
