Obituary of Christopher J. Mugavero

Mugavero, Christopher J. Rochester: Age 95, was born in Valguarnera, Sicily. He grew up on Fourth Street in Rochester, New York. He was a World War II wounded warrior and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a soldier in the 12th Armored Division and driver of a supply truck when he was shot and wounded ending his military career. He was one of four siblings who served their country simultaneously in World War II. Chris loved to hang out at the Rochester Public Market. He built his own home and maintained a cottage at Sodus Bay. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved to cook Italian specialties. He was happily married to his childhood sweetheart, Josephine Callari, on July 6, 1946, for nearly 70 years. He loved to tinker and refurbish furniture. He appreciated life and loved his extended family. Chris leaves behind his precious wife, Josephine, and his remaining sibling Sandy (Howard) Milton. nieces nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Antonio (Rosario) Mugavero, Joseph (Anne) Mugavero, Louis (Terry) Mugavero, John (Jeanette) Mugavero, Mary (Joseph) Saporito, and Samuel Mugavero who died in infancy. His many nephews and nieces will dearly miss his laughter, great cooking, and zest for life, and will cherish many wonderful memories. Chris was blessed by compassionate care in his later years by social workers, doctors, and nurses in facilities such as the Veterans Administration, Jewish Home, Wolk Manor, Rochester General Hospital, and in his last few weeks at Unity Hospital. A Christian Mass will be officiated by Chris' nephew, Fr. Anthony Mugavero, at Holy Apostles Church, 530 Lyell Avenue, on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
