Dear Cousins,
I recently became aware of Joanne's death. We were not only cousins (my mom was Angeline Molinari Comfort Serenati), but classmates at Eastridge both graduating in 1972. Although I lost touch with Joanne in the years after high school, I will remember her with fondness as a wonderfully smart and witty person with huge potential. I wish you all peace.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Joanne. I worked with her back at Western/Mills and she was always very kind, helpful and nice and excellent to work with. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, Agnes Yackshaw

I was stunned to read about the untimely death of your sister. We became very close friends through Alice Webster's Journalism classes. She became the editor of "Hard Times"and me assistant. Despite our different backgrounds we forged a special friendship. We joked that it was an unlikely one but one that we treasured.. She was my maid of honor in my wedding to Jim.
Although we lost touch over the years as our lives went in different directions we both considered ourselves lifelong friends. I am so happy that a couple of years ago I found a number to contact her. In just a matter of minutes it was just like we talked to each other yesterday. I have thought a lot about that conversation today and am so grateful for it.
When I think of Joanne I can clearly see her infectious smile, hear her laughter, awed by her incredible intelligence balanced with common sense, her concern for those in need and advocating for what is just, her cooking talent as she shared recipes with me, ,hear her favorite Cat Stevens' songs she introduced me to and countless other positive qualities. Most of all I will fondly remember her warmth, unconditional love and compassion as she embraced every one as a friend or chosen family.
I am reminded of an Eastern philosophy class I took at Eastridge where I learned "I am I because you are you." Reflecting back on our class from senior year our teacher proclaimed, 'We shared souls." I firmly believe that every single person who crossed our paths in those formative years helped us become our authentic selves. Today I appreciate that even more.
My sweet friend I will celebrate you forever.
Diane, Gary, Linda and families your loss is profound may it bring you comfort and peace to know that Joanne's bright light will continue to be celebrated by so many.
"Unable are the loved to die for love is immortality." (Emily Dickinson)

Joanne and I met in grade school and became fast friendship. We remained good friends all through high school and even beyond. Sadly, we eventually lost touch, but I never forgot my good friend. I am so sorry to learn of her passing. To her friends and family I can only say that she had a great impact on my life and I will never forget her.
