Obituary of MaryAnne Santangelo (Francione)
MaryAnne Francione Santangelo died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on February 20, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on February 19, 1921 in Rochester, New York to Vernon Francione and Maria DeMille Francione, one of 8 children. It has been written: “Your work is to discover your world and then, with all of your heart, give yourself to it.” This describes MaryAnne’s life. MaryAnne was preceded in death in 2002 by the love of her life, Carl D. Santangelo. They celebrated 55 years of marriage together. They were engaged before Carl went to serve in the Air Force in WWII. She wrote to him every day until he returned home on Valentine’s Day, 1946
MaryAnne was the co-owner and business manager of her husband’s business: Carl’s Burner Service. Later in life, she was an aide in the Irondequoit School system in the Primary Mental Health program sponsored by the University of Rochester, Medical School. MaryAnne and Carl were active members of St. Margaret Mary’s RC Parish. She served as the President of the Altar Society for several years, was a member of the Sisters of Mercy Foundation, a Girl Scout Leader for Faith and Edie, a Cub Scout Den Mother for Carl and general supporter of all things “Family”
Mary Anne loved her family and was a loyal friend and gracious hostess. She was known for her excellent Italian cuisine. Her baked goods were a legend. Nana’s Christmas party each year featured her cookies and pastries that came from recipes handed down the generations in her family. On December 20, 2014 at the age of 93 yrs old, she was a winner in the Tulsa World “Twelve Days of Christmas” contest sponsored by Ann’s bakery. Her “Italian Chocolate Cookies” recipe is a traditional recipe that was always a great hit.
MaryAnne and Carl travelled to Europe, South America, Hawaii and through-out the USA together. She was the last survivor of her beloved sorority sisters (Tau Sigma Gamma) from Washington High School in Rochester.
MaryAnne was a woman of grace and beauty, intelligence and curiosity; she was well-read and well versed in current events. She had a great sense of humor, strength, kindness. She was a good friend and a woman of deep faith and love. She is survived by her daughter M. Faith Boudreau and spouse, Daniel J. Boudreau, of Tulsa, their children; Elizabeth A. Boudreau,of Tulsa, W. Duffy Boudreau (wife, Caitlin & great grandchild Oona Clare) of Seattle, daughter, Edith Clement and spouse Milton A Clement of Orlando, Florida, their children, Matthew Clement (Naomi Duke & great grandchild, Flannery Rose), Catherine Stone (Adam & great grandchild Levi), Son, Carl G. Santangelo and spouse Gita of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, their children: Carl Walter Santangelo, Elizabeth Kimple (Scott), Nicole Furno (Rob) and great granddaughter, Ellie.
In Rochester, MaryAnne is survived by her sisters: Sister Mary Faith Francione, RSM and Sister Edith Francione, RSM , her sister-in-laws, Florence Francione & Casimera Francione. Her sister, Anne Pizzarelli and neice Barbara Pizzarelli, nephew Ron preceded her in death as did the four Francione brothers: Albert, John (Mary), Ernie, and Orlando (Sylvia). Rochester family survivors included dearly loved Francione nephews and their families: Albert (Georgiann), Gene (Linda), James (Nancy), Richard (Linda), Dennis (Sue), John (Denise) & Gary (Anna).
The family wishes to thank the Nurses and entire staff of Oklahoma Methodist Manor for their loving care of MaryAnne, the Pastoral Staff at Church of the Madalene, and MaryAnne’s dear friend, Sister Marie Pierre,OSB for all of the kindness and support received during MaryAnne’s transition. Also, special thanks to niece, JoAnn Zito, Father John Carriero, S.J. and Father James Hewes for their assistance in the interment and prayer service.
MaryAnne was laid to rest on February 27, 2015 next to her husband Carl D. Santangelo in the mausoleum at the Chapel of the Ascension at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, New York. (Falvo’s Funeral Home). A Mass of the Resurrection and celebration of MaryAnne’s life with a reception following Mass will be held on June 12, 2015 at 2pm. at Our Lady of Mercy Motherhouse. Donations in her honor may be made to the Sisters of Mercy Foundation, Rochester, New York.
