Obituary of Margaret Costanza

Costanza, Margaret "Midge" San Diego, CA: March 23, 2010, age 77. Predeceased by her parents, Philip & Concetta Costanza; brother, Peter Costanza & sister, Louise Steiman. Survived by brother & sister-in-law, Anthony (Susan) Costanza; nephews, L. Damien (Deana) Costanza & Donald (Diane) Steiman; nieces, Julie (Patrick) Bausch, Lauren (Scott) Kent & Erin Costanza. Midge was a tireless advocate and impassioned champion of equality, justice and human rights. She was the first woman to hold the office of Assistant to the President of the United States under President Jimmy Carter. Midge served as a link between the President and a wide range of groups who previously had limited access to the White House, including women, youth, seniors, minorities, gays and lesbians and the disabled. Midge moved to San Diego in 1990 working on the campaigns of several congresswomen and senators and from 2000-2003 Midge was Special Assistant to California Governor Gray Davis. In 2003, Midge formed the Midge Costanza Institute for the Study of Politics and Public Policy. Most recently Midge was with the Office of the San Diego County District Attorney as a Public Affairs Officer.
