Obituary of Louis Sinisgalli

Sinisgalli, Louis F."Louie" Rochester: Peacefully, February 11, 2012 at age 69. Predeceased by his father, Joseph. He leaves his adoring mother, Mary and his loving & devoted wife, Donna (Caceci). He also leaves his brother, Ron (Anita) & niece, Natalie; sister-in-law, Patricia Caceci; special nephew, Ronnie (Michelle) Caceci and other Caceci & Tumminelli nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his caring cousin, Joe (Louise) Guzzetta; his angels, Deanna and Mary; other cousins, friends and many past employees. Louie was a self made man and founder of Sinisgalli Wrecking who quitely changed the Rochester skyline during the last 40 years. He completed the most difficult and notable demolitions with his loyal friend and employee, Mike Cenzi, at the controls of the machines. Louie defined himself by his work and mastered anything he took on. He graduated from Franklin High in 1961. He won many awards for drag racing his Ford and Corvettes and was known for his expertise in automatic transmission repairs. Louie served in the Army Reserves from 1961 to 1969 and in his leisure time, flew single engine planes. From 1965-1983, Louie operated Rotary, Exxon and Mobil gas stations and Lou's Towing in Henrietta and then The Truck Stop at E. Henrietta Rd. Louie's other businesses included trucking, slow plowing, excavation, road milling, mobile home parks, farms and other land investments. Louie's high standards and business accumen led him to be the only demolition contractor to operate a gravel pit and land fill. In 1980, he took over the operation of the land fill in the Hamlet of Mendon. Controversy followed and operations ended in 1992. Contamination was not an issue and litigation followed. The final cap was started in 2007 and is now 75% complete. Despite his best efforts, Lou was refused a permit that would allow a one year extension to meet 100% completion. Louie funded the work himself and was committed to seeing the project through by pledging his other property assets as assurance of completion. A man misunderstood, Louie was a victim of his own success. He stood out from the crowd and never sought publicity or recognition. In the early '70s, he designed and fabricated an 18 foot Slowblade Pusher that has since been patented by others. In 1983, the Sinisgalli Wrecking Team discovered the water wheel on the banks of the Genesee River which was developed into the High Falls District. His health ended the march to the beat of his own drum. Sinisgalli Wrecking in now closed. His work was his hobby. Visit Facebook.com/sinisgalliwrecking to view highlights of his demolition projects.
