Obituary of Pat Kreckel
Kreckel, Pat
Webster:
On October 21, 2014 at the age of 96. He grew up on the Southside of Rochester in the German section where his father Philip was the organist for St. Boniface Church and his mother Martha sang in the choir. He was the eldest of his siblings, John who passed away in 1957, Mary who passed away in 1928 and Robert. A quote in his Aquinas year book described his as, "A Irish Humorist/need we say more, for Pat amuses and makes friends with all". These words carried true throughout Pat's life. He leaves behind his wartime bride, Elinor who is 95 years old. She gave birth to his first daughter Patty while he fought with the 756 Tank Battalion in Africa and Italy. Upon returning home Pat became a father again to his second daughter Kathy. He also began a career with the IRS that lasted more than 30 years. At this time he feel in love with the game of golf which he played until age 95. He was well known at the Ontario Golf Club and Clearwater Country Club where he scored a hole in one at each respective club. When his 2 grandsons Jody and Tucker were old enough, he'd take them for rides in his golf cart and share his love of model trains with them. Pat loved spending his winters in Florida and taking bike rides along the country roads near Lake Ontario. A favorite annual event was celebrating his St. Patrick's Day birthday with grandsons Jody and his wife Sandy, Tucker and his wife Jen, and his great-grandchildren Ben, Claire, Sarah and Sofie. And of course a round of golf with his son-in-law Joe who was also a Niagara University graduate. His last year was spent as a resident at Cherry Ridge in Webster where he loved to listen to Dixieland Jazz, drink Reisling wine, manage stocks, maintain his bird feeders, and attend daily Mass. He would never turn down a head rub from his daughters and enjoyed his Sunday outings with his brother Father Bob Kreckel. One of his highlights was when Pat took part in the 15th Rochester Honor Flight to Washington. He was blessed with many friends and devoted relatives which made the last years of his life so fulfilling, especially Kathleen Dalton who served as a dear friend and caregiver.
