Obituary of Walter Andrew Wisnowski

Walter Andrew Wisnowski ‘Walt’ of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on September 6, 1935, in Woonsocket, RI and grew up in Uxbridge, MA.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, vacationing, playing cards, golf (2 aces), bowling (a 299 game) and bocce, or simply being with them and conversing.

Walt proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Sonarman and Chief Petty Officer. He then had a 34-year career at IBM Corporation in MA, NY, FLA, and NC – he was proud of his career, teammates and their accomplishments at ‘Big Blue.’

Walt is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (‘Betty’), his son Robert (Patti), and his parents, Dorothy and Walter Wisnowski.

Walt is survived by his son John (Marie), granddaughters - Kathryn (Craig) Rinefierd, Lauren, and Carly (Corey) Van Patten, his brother Jim (Betty), niece Debby (Anthony), and nephews Jim (Shelley) and Mike (Ali).

Walt’s fond memories include raising his sons in the town of Ipswich, MA, vacationing in North Conway, NH in the early years, and making lifelong, close friends in the various places he and Betty lived. They lived, loved and laughed, and did it right!

The family would like to thank the many close friends Walt made throughout his life who gave him great joy, and comradeship.

Walt battled dementia in his last few years -- he was a strong person and persevered.
