Joint Burial Service for Timothy and Eleanor Sawyer and Roger Pierce
Obituary of Eleanor Kastner Sawyer
Eleanor (Kastner) Sawyer, 89, of Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully on her birthday, April 7th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on April 7, 1937, in Rochester, NY, to Elmer and Anna Kastner. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of the area, spending many cherished years as a resident of Fairport, NY. She began her working career at Stromberg-Carlson, where she demonstrated remarkable loyalty, staying with the company until its closure, all while raising her two children. Later, she and her beloved husband, Timothy Sawyer, whom she married in 1971, worked together and retired from Trident Tool in Webster, NY.
Eleanor found joy in many pursuits. She had a passion for gardening, crocheting and the thrill of playing slots at the casino. A keen eye for a bargain, she loved discovering treasures at estate auctions to add to her cherished collections. Eleanor was also the family’s dedicated historian, always ready with her Super 8 video camera, 35mm, or countless disposable cameras to capture every precious memory. You could always count on her to document every event with a multitude of photographs.
Her heart held a special place for children. Eleanor delighted in hosting impromptu tea parties at any hour and found immense happiness in cuddling and rocking babies for hours on end. Above all, she treasured her family, cherishing every moment spent with them. Eleanor was a beautiful, kind, and compassionate woman, always eager to help those she loved.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted daughter, Marcia Craw (Steve), who lovingly cared for her; her sister, Diane Malboeuf; her grandchildren, Alicia Staheli (Jason) and Aaron Becker (Christina); and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Olivia, Sebastian, Jacob, and Lucy. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was joyfully reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Timothy Sawyer; her son, Roger Pierce; and her siblings, Hank Kastner, Arlene Cannioto, Dolores Hann, and Cathy, Grabenstetter, as well as her parents, Elmer and Anna Kastner.
A special thank you is extended to all the staff at Aaron Manor in Penfield, NY, for their compassion and exceptional care provided to Eleanor.
Friends and family are invited to a joint burial and celebration of life for Timothy and Eleanor Sawyer and Roger Pierce. The burial service will be held on July 6th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery on the corner of Carter and Furman Road in Fairport, NY. Further details regarding the celebration of life will be announced.
