Obituary of Gary Henry Peters D.D.S.

Webster – Gary Henry Peters, DDS, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Gary was born in Rochester, New York, on February 17, 1948, to Benjamin and Antoinette Peters. He met the love of his life, Mary Jo, during his undergraduate years at the University of Dayton. They married on August 15, 1970, beginning a beautiful 55-year journey together filled with love, partnership, and devotion.

Together, Gary and Mary Jo built a life centered on family, raising two children and later delighting in the lives of their seven grandchildren, who brought them endless pride and joy.

After graduating from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1974 and completing his residency at Rochester General Hospital, Gary opened his dental practice in Webster, where he cared for his patients and community for 36 years.  During this time he also volunteered his dentistry at the House of Mercy. He was known not only for his skill, but for his kindness, gentle manner, and the relationships he built over decades.

Following his retirement in 2012, Gary and Mary Jo enjoyed traveling the world together. Closer to home, Gary found peace and happiness at their home in Maine and at their cottage on Sodus Bay. In retirement Gary also volunteered for 10 years as treasurer of One World Goods, a not for profit, fair trade store in Pittsford Plaza.

Gary was an avid fisherman, cyclist, and skier. He was also a talented watercolor artist, especially drawn to painting lobster boats and lighthouses. In addition, he had a gift for photography and captured countless beautiful images of people and places throughout his life.

And how could we forget his love for the Buffalo Bills which provided many happy memories watching the games with family and friends.

Above all, Gary loved spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed a chance to watch a game, music performance, or special moment, always showing up with quiet pride and unwavering support. Time spent with his grandchildren—whether cheering them on or taking them fishing—meant everything to him.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo; his daughter, Andrea, and son-in-law, Ryan (Madeline, Mia, Millie); his son, Benjamin (Henry, Lucille, Nora, Rosie); his sister, Dorene; and many dear brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Family and Friends are invited to calling hours Friday, April 10th, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Falvo Funeral Home, 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd, Webster, NY, 14580.  Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 11th, at 10:00AM at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 783 Hard Rd, Webster, NY, 14580 with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 2461 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY, 14612
