I came to know Ruth in the last 10 years of her life...Our paths crossed at the Art Stop, where she was a student in my watercolor class. She was quietly open to learning this new medium, and our friendship began. Over time, I learned about her life; her family story and mine overlapped in many ways. She found a full and happy life with Don. Ruth was a beautiful, gentle, kind soul who listened with her heart. Over the years, we moved from teacher/ student to friends...It is not often that we find New Friends in our grown up years, but we did. I watched her style and art confidence blossom. My painting in her honor was an effort to capture her "scrappy" hard earned spirit. Someone who had endured and blossomed; She is/ was the rose among us.. Rest in God's arms my friend!

Ruth was my “big sister” and as close to being my twin as possible, short of sharing the same birth date. She was my friend, my confidante and my analyst, my art instructor, my exercise coach, my cheer leader, and my fashion consultant from the age of 12! Together with our husbands, we explored London, Rome, Venice, and Canandaigua, and relished more than one scoop of ice cream in every location! As we approached senior status, we used to joke about the days when we could while away our time together rocking and reminiscing on a front porch somewhere. We can still share our memories together, Ruth. Just close your eyes and reach out. I’ll be right there by your side. Thank you for all of your wisdom and guidance, dear sister. I love you. ❤️

For Ruth, Dogwood in Spring: Ruth and I became friends 10 years ago when she joined the Art Group. During COVID, we continued to paint together weekly, while chatting on FaceTime and often painting the same tutorial subject. We helped each other through the painting process and shared stories of our families and lives. This continued until 2 weeks before her passing, allowing us to continue painting together even when she was in quarantine. I will truly miss our time together and the friendship we developed. Her memory will be a blessing. The last painting we started together, she was never able to finish so I dedicate mine to her. .

Ruth and I were psychiatric colleagues and dear friends for 30 yrs.We shared many memories of spring lunches and fall birthdays , our love of art, shopping, gossiping, gardening,lamenting current politics and laughing and enjoying our retirement. A visit to the Scott’s lovely home always involved cuddles and kisses from Shadow and a hug from Don. Ruth’s bravery and strength was so admirable during her difficult illness and she is now at her deserved rest. I will miss you my dear friend.

Ruth and I were friends for over 30 years but more than just friends. She was my confidant, she was my walking buddy, she was my painting buddy, she was the person I would go to for medical advice. She was always there for me and I hope I was always there for her. Ruth, rest in peace. I love you and I will miss you more than I could ever imagine.
