Obituary of Michael Walter Geer

WEBSTER/SODUS BAY   Surrounded by his loving family Mike passed peacefully on March 13 from his courageous two-year battle with ALS. Mike lived a life of love, kindness, laughter and a positive outlook knowing that each day was not guaranteed, but a blessing to be cherished.

Mike leaves his devoted wife and best friend Karen (Kleinhammer).  He was a great father to his loving son Christopher and his wife Stephanie, and stepdaughter Laura and her husband Erik Bolzner. He was the most amazing “Papa” to his four beautiful grandchildren, Margot Geer, Madison, Taylor & Hayes Bolzner; Stepmother Dorothy Geer; Siblings Greg (Pat), Gretchen (Dave), Wes, Lorna (Jim); In-laws Bob and Barb Kleinhammer; Brothers-in-law Mike (Susan), Tom (Nell), nephews, nieces and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Loren and Beverly.

Mike was a Section V champ and all-county athlete in wrestling, football, and lacrosse, and a Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee at RL Thomas High School. At the University of Rochester, he played football and was Honorable Mention All-American in lacrosse. He worked in IT at GM, HP and EDS before retiring from the Webster School District Transportation Dept. Mike was a great athlete and an even better man. Always thinking of others, Mike has chosen to donate his body to the University of Rochester Medical Center for ALS research.

He was a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan and season ticket holder. He found great joy being with his family and friends, living on Sodus Bay where he loved boating, fishing, poker nights, fine whiskey and hosting cookouts.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Chris Momot and Mike’s entire ALS team for their unconditional support.

Mike’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 27 at 3:00 pm at St. Rita Church, 1008 Maple Dr. Webster. If you are unable to attend, the Mass will be live streamed at www.stritawebster.org choose WATCH LIVE.

Memorials may be directed to teamgleason.org or St. Rita School.
