Obituary of Lawrence A. Deane
Lawrence Deane, 12/15/47 - 3/4/2026
Larry passed away on March 4th after nearly 2 years living with ALS. He was the son of James and Arline Deane, and is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Janice; their children Cheryl Deane and husband Josh Henry, Brian (Maureen) Deane, Courtney Deane and husband Rob Casper, Brittany (Donald) Tanguay; sisters Beverly (Tom) Geisler and Cynthia Deane; grandchildren Killian and Elizabeth Deane, Minerva and Pearl Henry, and Adrienne Casper; nieces Lora Gerhardt and Jaylene Geisler, and nephew Stephen Williams.
Larry grew up in Greece, graduating from Edison Tech high school in 1965. He attended Oswego State University before being drafted into the Army, serving in Germany for 2+ years. Not long after he and Janice married, he began his career at Eastman Kodak Company, ultimately working there 37 years, making many friends in his decades in the Kodak power plants.
Larry was a gifted storyteller and many of his family, friends and colleagues will have enduring memories of sharing many beers and many laughs in his garage or at the annual NYS Pageant of Steam. He loved all animals, especially dogs, and usually had a biscuit for each of his grand-dogs. He was the first call many of his friends and neighbors would make if something in their house or car needed repair. Larry was known for being able to fix anything. He knew how to make most things work, even in the last 15 or so years as everything became more computerized. Most of all, Larry will always be remembered for his caring disposition; the way he was truly interested in the welfare of every person he met. This is perhaps a bit of an unexpected quality in such a strong, independent, and mechanically-inclined man of his time.
The family is hosting calling hours at the Falvo Funeral Home 1295 Fpt Nine Mile Pt Rd. on Tuesday, March 10 from 4-7. In lieu of flowers, donations to I AM ALS or ALS research organizations are very welcome. The family would like to thank the VA, the URMC ALS clinic, and Strong hospital for their efficient care.
