Obituary of James Scott Vreeland
James S. Vreeland
It is with profound sadness that we announce James Scott Vreeland, age 59 of Penfield, NY, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on February 13th, 2026. Jim fought a courageous battle with AML for the past ten months with nothing but optimism, grace, and strength, with that beautiful smile on his face.
Jim was born in Waterloo, NY. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School (Class of ‘84), Genesee Community College, SUNY Oswego, and he received his Masters in School Psychology from RIT. Jim was a School Psychologist in the Greece Central School District for 29 years. He loved his job, colleagues, and his students.
His passions in life included cycling, nature, music, and weather, but what brought him the most joy was his love for his wife, children, and family. He was extremely proud of his children and supported everything they did. He absolutely loved being a dad, and spending time with his family. He is predeceased by his father George Vreeland and father-in-law Frederick Irland. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Brenda, daughter Hannah (Mark), son Alex (Kate), mother Sharon, brother Ken (Denise), in-laws Virginia and Earl Bowen, sister-in-laws Tracy Irland and Kim Woehr (Karl), nieces and nephews Jacob, Julia, Zoe, Max, Aidan, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind too many close friends to name.
Jim was a shining light and his life was marked by love, compassion, and joy. We ask that you remember him for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May we carry forth his legacy in all that we do.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 1-5pm, Friday, February 27 at Eagle Vale Golf Club, 4344 Nine Mile Point Road, Fairport, NY. Memories of Jim's life will be shared by family and friends at 3pm. We’d like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at Wilmot Cancer Center, especially WCC6, who were like family to us over the past ten months. Jim loved nature, birds and animals. Donations can be made to Wild Wings Inc. (wildwingsinc.org) or Lollypop Farms (lollypop.org) in his name.
Interment will be held in the Spring at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, in the Nature Trail Area.
