Obituary of James Richard Purpura Jr.
James “Jamie” Richard Purpura Jr., age 67, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, surrounded by family.
Jamie was born on November 13, 1958, in Rochester, New York, the son of the late James “Jim” Purpura and Lil Purpura.
Jamie was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His life was defined by love, loyalty, and laughter, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He is survived by his three children, David Van Houte (Hiromi), Julie Purpura (Matt Martin), and James Purpura (Leah); his four grandchildren, Kai and Mika Van Houte, Isabella Hosbach, and Mackenzie Martin; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jamie spent many years in the car sales and restaurant businesses. Known by many for his sense of humor and huge heart, he possessed a rare gift for striking up meaningful conversation with just about anyone. A passionate card player, he regularly enjoyed Gin Rummy and Poker with close groups of friends. Jamie also raised and showed fancy pigeons for over forty-five years, a pursuit he loved and cherished. He was an active member of the Pigeon Fanciers Association of Rochester, NY, and proudly served multiple terms as the club’s president.
Jamie will be deeply missed by all who knew him and were fortunate enough to feel his love.
Calling hours will be held from 2–5 PM on Friday, January 2, at Falvo Funeral Home, 1395 North Goodman St., Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
