Obituary of Theodore George Kastrinos
Theodore (Ted) Kastrinos passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Ted left an indelible mark on the lives of hundreds of people through his life and career in the theatre and as an educator.
Ted was a retired English teacher, having taught English and American Literature, drama and forensics for 33 years in the Commack School District on Long Island. He is credited with creating curricula for beginning and advanced theatre, musical theatre, public speaking and the International Baccalaureate Theatre Arts course. Having directed at Hofstra University, Dowling College and the State University of New York at Farmingdale, Ted was one of the founders and co-owners of Take-One Theatre on Long Island where he served as artistic director for 12 years. Throughout his theatrical career he has directed in excess of 175 plays, musicals, one –act festivals and musical revues. For 29 years, he stage- managed the Seiskaya Ballet Company’s performances at the Staller Center of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. For the past nine years, Ted has written, produced and directed original musical revues for the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit in Rochester, NY. He has been awarded the prestigious New York State English Council Theatre Excellence Award, the Long Island Educational Theatre Association Award and a Suffolk County Proclamation for Service to Theatre. Ted has recently co-authored Dragula the Musical, a rather unique take on the classic vampire tale and A Pilgrimage of Hope, a musical passion play that has had its fourth performance in Connecticut in 2025.
Ted was a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his Bride of 56 years, Georgia A. Kastrinos, his three loving children, Alexandra C. Brydsten (Jon Brydsten), George T. Kastrinos (Michelle Pritchard) and Anastasia Kastrinos-Salamone (Robert Salamone).
Ted is also survived by his six Grandchildren whom he adored, Noah A. Brydsten, Zoe E. Brydsten, Lilah G. Kastrinos, Miles T. Kastrinos, Alexios A. Kastrinos and Penelope A. Kastrinos.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 5 from 4-7pm at Falvo Funeral Home (1295 Fairport Nine Mile Pt. Rd. Webster, NY 14580.) On Saturday, please meet the family at Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit (835 South Ave, Rochester, NY 14620) for his Funeral Mass at 11am. Interment Webster Union Cemetery.
Ted leaves behind a legacy of true generosity, love, inspiration and kindness. In the spirit of his giving nature, a scholarship foundation has been established at the place he called home for 33 years, Commack High School.
