Obituary of Christopher John Strait

In Loving Memory of Christopher J. Strait
April 9,1971 – November 18, 2025

With profound sadness and deep love, we share the passing of Christopher Strait, age 54, who left us peacefully on November 18, 2025, after a brave and unyielding fight against multiple cancer diagnoses, which he faced with remarkable courage, dignity, and grace. Though his body endured immense challenges and countless trials, his spirit never faltered. He remained a shining example of strength, optimism, and joy for everyone blessed to know him, inspiring those around him with his unwavering hope, his warm smile, and his ability to find light even in the darkest of moments.

Chris was born in Auburn, NY but spent the majority of his younger years in Newark, NY. Chris was a gifted athlete, admired for his energy, determination, competitive spirit and ability to consistently sink a 3-point shot. Those same qualities carried into every part of his life, forming the way he approached challenges and embraced each day. Whether on the field, court, at work, or simply spending time with loved ones, Chris brought an infectious enthusiasm and a lighthearted sense of fun that made everything brighter. He was a dedicated father who coached both his son’s and daughters’ sports teams throughout the years and never missed any of their games or events. As an usher at St. Paul’s Church, he welcomed parishioners with warmth and commitment, reflecting his deep faith and service to the community.

After earning his Master of Business Administration from Nazareth University, Chris devoted over 30 years to the packaging industry, where his professionalism, integrity, and leadership earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Chris loved collaborating, learning, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. He served as an active board member for several associations, using his talents, knowledge, and remarkable sense of teamwork to support and uplift others in every way he could.

Outside of work, Chris had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, happiest when casting a line from his own boat or joining friends on theirs—not just for the thrill of the catch, but for the camaraderie and laughter shared on the water. He often reminded others with a playful smile, “That’s why it’s called fishing, not catching.” The name of his first boat, Gotta Believe, reflected his optimistic outlook and determination in life.

Above all, Chris’s greatest devotion was to his family and friends, whom he enjoyed every shared moment with- he was always putting the needs of others before his own. He had a rare gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved, offering words of encouragement when they were needed most and celebrating the successes of others as if they were his own. His life was full of words and actions that always reminded us of the beauty of simply being together.

Survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Kristen, and their children, Jonathan (Jasmine) and Kathryn, along with his brothers, Michael (Barbara) and Brian, parent in-laws, George and Thelma Lejnieks as well as numerous family members and friends whom he loved with all his heart.  He was endlessly proud of them, cherishing every moment and celebrating their accomplishments with genuine happiness. His tireless support, deep devotion, and kindness were constants in our lives — a true gift we will forever treasure. Though we will miss him beyond measure, we take comfort in knowing his legacy of love, determination, courage, and optimism will live on in all of us.

Predeceased by his loving parents, John and Dawn, whose guidance and values shaped the man he became.

In honor of Chris, please take time to gather with those you love, sharing stories, laughter, and memories as often as you can — just as he would have wanted.

Kristen wishes to extend her heartfelt gratitude to The Maplewood Nursing Home and RRH Home Hospice for the exceptional care given to Chris. She is especially thankful to their children-  Jonathan, Jasmine and Kathryn—who lovingly helped care for him at home, as well as to the dedicated team of medical professionals and the many close friends who supported Chris and his family with kindness and compassion throughout the years.
