Obituary of Luis E. Melendez

It is with profound sadness that the Melendez family announces the passing of Luis E. Melendez (affectionately known as Galdy) on November 1st , 2025, in Rochester, New York. Galdy was born on April 8th, 1967, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

He lived a life full of love, especially cherishing the time he spent with his beloved wife, Sharon Melendez, who passed before him. Galdy is now joining Sharon in Heaven, rejoicing in their love once again. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, integrity. Despite his health struggles, he always managed to keep a huge smile that always lit up his face.

Galdy had a passion for building model cars and driving them during his younger years and he was a true wrestling fan at heart; he loved all things “WWE." He was a beloved member of his community and touched the lives of many with his kindness and warmth. His brother, Art, will forever hold dear the memories of their Sunday mornings spent sharing breakfast with their mother.

Galdy survived by his loving mother, Margarita; father, Juan; sisters, Marilyn Rodriguez and Clarissa Melendez; brother, Arturo and Eileen; and stepdaughter, Veronica. Other surviving family members include Jose Sanchez, Jennifer Melendez, Mercedes Melendez; Titis: Elena, Anna, Dori, and Sonia; as well as all of the uncles. Cousins include Lucy, Junito, Jessica, Sandra, Baltazar, Bernaldo, Becky, Reynaldo, and the extended family in Coamo, Aibonito, and Cayey, Puerto Rico.

He also had a special place in his heart for his best friends Mo and Dustin, who were always by his side, and all of his cherished “Princeton Street” neighborhood friends, including Junior,  Luis, Santos,  and Jose.  You will be missed dearly. "Life won't be the same without you."
