I have never met someone like Gene and am proud to have called him a friend. A true legend who knew what it meant to live. If I can name one role model I look up to in my life, I would name Gene.

Gene was my landlord in Bristol, NY for two years. During our time there, my (now) wife and I got married. When he heard about it he said get married in the backyard! He fixed up the barn and added plants, flowers and stairs. We will never forget his kindness as we started out our lives together. Rest easy, Gene.

Gene was so kind to us and literally helped to make our day so memorable. I remember coming home to beautiful landscaping after working a 14 hour shift at the hospital. It brought me to tears. We lost touch with each other but then 2 years ago my husband and I ran into him at Redd. He was such a life force. Big, bright, light. Love ya Gene.

Our paths crossed with Gene’s trajectory through life last year, when we moved to Rochester for cancer treatment. Gene made sure we out-of-state strangers were comfortable in our home here - not once but twice as circumstances required a second move. He checked in, visited and often sat with us, telling stories of life in Rochester and calling when he couldn’t come over. Grace is doing the right thing when nobody is looking and Gene overflowed with grace, valor and gallantry. I will never forget him and his kindness. My heart goes out to his family and friends for this immeasurable loss.

I will always be grateful for the love and kindness Gene showed my mom and step-dad. They moved to Rochester last year for my mom’s cancer treatment and Gene rented them the most lovely apartment. He truly brightened my mom’s final days with his smile and love and big heart. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful man. Sending so much love to his family.

I helped Gene with plumbing purchases for his rentals and also his daughter, Shayna's house. He was always smiling and kind - even if a little stressed. He always lit up the room when he entered! I am so sad to hear of his passing and wish his family peace. Carol Reif (VP Supply)

May He Rest in Peace, and my sincere condolences to your entire family…
I first walked into Shego Ego in Irondequoit in the 80’s, and I can certainly say that I have received compliments about my hair for the last 40 years…many thanks to Gene and all his hair artists

My first day at the salon I saw this hard working man carrying boxes and smiling so bright. And every time I would go to the salon he would always smile and say hello to myself and every customer he came across with such a bright spirit and a warm welcome. I only found out much later that he was the founder of this wonderful salon. He was kind hearted and my prayers and condolences are for his family and loved ones. God bless.

Gene gave me my first job as an aesthetician after I graduated from cosmetology school. I didn’t stay with Shear Ego for very long, but I did run into him and his wife at an airport lounge a few years ago. We had a nice conversation. I am saddened to learn of his death.

I have known Gene since the Frantoin days! He gave my 3 kids their first haircut…2 boys & a girl!!. Over the years he shaved my head when I had chemo for breast cancer because he thought it less emotional then watching my hair fall in clumps. When ever my Mom was in town, she would say I want to get my hair done by Gene so I can see him! She loved him! These are just a couple of things I hold dear! There were many more
All this to say Gene had a very significant impact on my life… his kindness and the generosity of his heart will be with me forever!! As he will be forever in the hearts of so many! Rest in peace Gene ❤️

I have known Gene since 1976. Gene was the epitome of how we should live our lives. Honest, forthright, hardworking and respectful of others. Further, Gene had that type of personality that made you just want to be around him. No matter what circumstance brought us together, he always left me with a smile. Without question, Gene will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Eugene P. That’s what I called him and he let me. If you know him, no one called him Eugene. I worked for Shear Ego for 20 years and because of Gene, I made friendships for a lifetime. So many memories and so many Saturday mornings, opening the Salon with him. I named my first car after him and I’ll never forget the look on his face when I told him. Each time I go into the Salon, I am going to look at his station, hear his voice and remember how he moved around as he cut and styled his clients’ hair. I’ll shed a tear and feel saddened I know, the first couple of visits. Eugene P. Cards was a true example of setting and accomplishing your dreams. Thank you, Eugene.

It is with the deepest sympathy for Gene's family that I share this memory. Gene's larger than life personal was always present at every industry conference or event he attended. I knew that at the end of the day Gene would come up and say, "Vinnie, what are you doing for dinner?" This always meant a wild night out with Gene that I could never turn down. Always going to some restaurant or place that required a reservation months in advance...that we definitely did not have. He got us in every time and the memories began. Gene will be sorely missed and remembered fondly. The Beauty Industry was a better place because of Gene. Rest in Piece my friend. - Vincent J Ferrara, CEO Brittany Beauty Academy

No words could express my sorrow at this time. I loved my cousin as a brother, always embraced each other in meeting with a kiss. He was a Gift to anyone who encountered him. His humanity will live on, as an example for everyone who has a tender heart as he. May the peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus, remain as a comfort to you all
