Obituary of Samuel C. Falzone

Samuel Charles Falzone, a proud native of Rochester, passed away on September 23, 2025, at the age of 77. Sam lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and faith.

He graduated from Aquinas Institute and continued his education at RIT and RBI. Sam treasured his Aquinas classmates, who met regularly for lunch—they remained a steadfast connection throughout his life.

Sam began his career with the Army Reserve Headquarters on Goodman Street as a civilian, following his decorated service in Vietnam. He retired in 2005 after 54 years of service as a CW4.

Continuing his family’s legacy, Sam devoted 50 years to the Usher’s Union Local B90, serving 28 of those as President. CMAC was one of his favorite places, where he supervised ushers and ticket takers for many years.

His contributions to the community were equally impactful. He served on the Board of Camp Good Days and Special Times and was a proud member of the American Legion.

It would be remiss not to mention Sam’s love of golf, baseball, hockey, and, of course, Notre Dame football.

Sam had a gift for connecting with others. He was not only a dignified leader and mentor but also had an incomparable wit. If he wasn’t leaving you inspired, he was making you laugh. He treated his community like family—and to his family, he was a generous father, grandfather, uncle, and husband.

Sam is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anne Falzone, and his sister, JeanMarie Malone. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn; his children, James (Andrea) Hertzel, Julie (Michael) Doyle, and June (Donald) Preston; grandchildren, Kasey (Tommy) Cox, Jarrett (Taylor) Hertzel, Mackenzie (Anne) Hofford, Gunnar Doyle, Hunter Doyle, Quinn Doyle, Desmond (Yuki) Preston, and Collin (Courtney) Preston; great-grandchildren, Christian, Luke, Ruth, and Jack; nephew, Shawn (Julianne) Malone; brother-in-law, Bob (Bea) Farrier; as well as many other beloved family members and close friends.

Sam’s legacy of service, leadership, and love leaves a void that will be filled by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 2, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Falvo Funeral Home, 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd., Webster, N.Y. 14580. On Friday, please meet the family for his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield St., East Rochester, N.Y. 14445. Private entombment will follow at White Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sam’s name to Honor Flight Rochester or to Camp Good Days and Special Times.
