Obituary of Charles A. Durand
Charles Albert Durand, 71, of Webster, NY passed away on August 19, 2025, in Syracuse following surgery after a heart attack.
Chuck was born on June 17, 1954, the son of Albert Victor and Gertrude Elizabeth Totman Durand of Penfield, NY. Following graduation from Penfield High School, Chuck attended Clarkson College and earned a BS in Industrial Management. He joined the family business, Durand’s Rent-All, in Henrietta, and opened 2 more store locations on Dewey Ave and in Penfield. After selling the rental stores he opened Earthtones Coffee House on Bay Rd in Penfield. He later joined the team at Lowes in Webster where he worked in the Indoor Lawn and Garden Department.
As a senior at Clarkson, Chuck met SUNY Potsdam senior Mary Elizabeth MacMartin and they were married on August 6, 1977. They are the parents of Adam (Tracy Webster), Megan Burrough (Matthew) of Redmond, WA, and Ryan. Chuck leaves a brother, David, of Sarasota and a sister, Cynthia Knodel (Peter) of Syracuse, brother-in-law Gerald Joseph MacMartin (Rebecca) and sister-in-law Leslie MacMartin of Ogdensburg, many nieces, cousins, and 2 grand nephews.
Chuck was an avid sports fan. He played soccer in high school and college and coached as well. He was a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills. He golfed every summer both in Rochester and at his summer home on the St Lawrence River. In the last few years, he discovered pickleball and became obsessed with the game — often playing four times per week at the Webster Rec center.
Chuck loved music. He played the trumpet in the Penfield High School Jazz Band. He was a longtime member of Fiddlers of the Genesee and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, playing the Irish drum (Bodhran).
He was a parent volunteer for the Webster High School Marching Band for all three children.
In retirement, Chuck enjoyed spending time at his summer home, traveling with his wife, and volunteering, especially at the Webster Comfort Care home.
