Obituary of James W. Sandy

James W. Sandy

1948-2025

Jim passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at Hildebrandt Hospice Center surrounded by the unconditional love of his family. He is predeceased by his parents Alfred and Mary Sandy, in-laws R.C. and Ernestine Williams and brother-in-law Robert Williams. Survived by his wife, “babe” of 52 years J. A. Sandy, daughters Sherren Sandy and Margot Sandy; siblings Alfred (Ruth) Sandy, Linda (Harvey) Jacobs, Bob (Mary Jo) Sandy, and Karen Destino; in-laws Earnest (Carlotta) Williams, John (Rita) Williams, Aunt Thelma, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A graduate of John Marshall High School (Class of 1966), he received a master’s degree from both the University of Rochester and RIT. Jim retired from Delphi Automotive as Global Program Manager for Engineering Systems and he began as a Math teacher for the Rochester City School District.

Among other things, Jim was an all-star athlete (baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball) – a catcher with perfect timing, who had a crazy-quick knack for rhyming, who possessed a sense of humor a la Bob Newhart, who loved to sing Sinatra, and who recently discovered a love for painting.

He loved his three girls more than anything – a doting dad who was beyond proud of his daughters, a husband and the ultimate caregiver who found the love of his life and did everything he could to make her smile. His family and friends were his world and his world was full. He was a hard worker, “a kind and caring soul”, and he was loved.

All expressions of sympathy are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. (www.heart.org)
