Obituary of Sam A. Bonsignore
Sam A. Bonsignore passed away peacefully at St. Ann’s Community, on May 13, 2025, at the age of 94.
Sam is survived by his children, Debra Bonsignore, Paul Bonsignore, Anita Fusilli (Leo) and Maria Biemiller (Kenny), his grandchildren, Leo Fusilli (Toni), Olivia Fusilli Angell (Michael), Isabella Fusilli, JonPaul Bonsignore, Samantha Bonsignore, Morgan Biemiller (Arun Soorakulanthakan) and Haley Biemiller, his great-granddaughter, Elena Marie Fusilli and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, John and his loving wife of 67 years, Marjorie.
Sam was born in 1930 in Rochester, NY and spent most of his life there. He was a 1949 graduate of Aquinas Institute and a 1955 graduate of Indiana University, where he attended on a full gymnastic scholarship. He also spent a post graduate year at St. John’s University in NYC.
Sam started his professional life selling life insurance for Prudential and Metropolitan, moved into a successful career at Eastman Kodak Co and then on to Xerox in Systems Planning & Development. Sam took an early retirement offer from Xerox and immediately moved into a stellar career selling real estate full-time.
Sam married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Marjorie (Margie) Cuiule, in 1954 and together they raised five children. He was a hands-on father and was very involved in his children’s lives. He and Margie were very active at Bishop Kearney with the Parents’ Club and Parents’ “Showtime”, a musical revue fundraiser for the school. Sam also created and ran the Kearney Karnival for several years, a multiple day event that raised a record-breaking amount of money to support Bishop Kearney. Sam and Margie were both inducted into the Bishop Kearney Wall of Fame in 2011.
Sam truly believed in giving back to the community and was an active member of the Eastridge Kiwanis for many years. He was a handyman who never said “no” to anyone who needed his help.
Sam continued his love of gymnastics as a part-time gymnastics judge and President of the NYS Gymnastics Coaches and Officials Association. He continued his athletic pursuits as an adult with recreational downhill skiing, racquetball, tennis and golf.
Sam and Margie loved to travel and they explored many countries around the world. They also had a winter home in Spring Hill, FL for decades.
Sam’s greatest love was his family, especially his seven grandchildren and great granddaughter. He and Margie never missed a sports competition, band or choral concert, dance recital, science fair or any event one of the grandchildren was involved in. They were the light of his life and the driver of his social calendar.
Sam lived an amazing, full and rich life. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, a family man and a true friend. He will be greatly missed.
The Memorial Mass for Sam will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 12:00 PM at the Chapel at St. Ann’s Community, 1500 Portland Ave. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
A special thank you to the staff of St. Ann’s Community for their kind and loving care of Sam for the past 2 ½ years. Special thanks go to Sam’s extraordinary caregivers on the 3rd floor, who enriched his life and became his family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann’s or the charity of your choice.
