Obituary of Gloria D. Battoglia

Rochester - Gloria D. Battoglia, 95, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Gloria was born in Rochester, NY on March 4, 1930 to the late Vincenzo (James) and Giuseppa (Josephine) (Camarella) Mazzola.

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 Years Angelo J. Battoglia (May 29, 2011), his parents Giuseppe and Maria Caterina (Filiberti) Battoglia, infant brother Ignazio Mazzola, brother Frank (Marie) Mazzola, sister Mary Jane (David) DiPane, brother-in-law Peter D'Amico, sisters-in-law Margaret (Raymond) Nannini and Lorraine Battoglia, nephews David Battoglia & Dennis DiPane and niece Frederica Mazzola.

She is survived by her 5 sons Kenneth (Kimberley), Gerald (Darlene), James (Roni), Richard (Kelly), Andrew and former daughter-in-law Kelly Larson, 12 grandchildren, 18+ great-grandchildren, sister Betty Ann D'Amico, brother-in-law Joseph Battoglia and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester where she was involved with the color guard and the Lambda Pi Miu sorority. Her sorority sisters became some of her lifelong friends.

Gloria raised her 5 boys with much love and support as well as a stern hand and a wooden spoon or yardstick or two which those 5 naughty boys certainly deserved to meet occasionally. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As the boys grew, Gloria worked outside the home as a court clerk for the Town of Penfield and later in retail sales for J.C. Penney Co. at Culver Ridge Plaza and Casual Corner at Eastview Mall where she could be found shopping quite often with her sister Betty Ann.  She found her fashion niche in retail sales when she started working with future brides @ Irondequoit Bridal.

Prior to his passing on May 29, 2011, Angelo told his 5 boys to take care of their mother as he had started to notice her having some memory issues. Gloria seemed to manage the early stages of her dementia for the 1st few years while living on her own in her new home in Webster where she had moved just 10 days prior to Andy's death, however as her dementia progressed, Gloria moved into memory care facilities, 1st at Heathwood Assisted Living & Memory Care in Penfield and then following Covid, she moved to the Rochester Presbyterian Home on Thurston Road where they have advanced dementia care. Following a broken hip and rehab at St. Ann's, she never was able to walk again.  She returned to RPH where she lived through almost a full year of home hospice due to extreme weight loss which she eventually graduated out of, but then she suffered a few additional falls out of the wheelchair, the last one with a couple broken fingers which resulted in her needing full nursing care. Gloria spent her last nine months living at the Monroe Community Hospital where she received excellent care from the staff.  Unfortunately, she contracted Covid (3rd time) on April 30th and on the early morning of Monday, 5/5/25, she was having difficulty breathing, went on oxygen and comfort care and passed later that evening while in the company of some of her family.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Community, Parkes Family Chapel, 1500 Portland Ave., Rochester, NY 14621, on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria's memory to St. Ann's Community or to the Monroe Community Hospital, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.
