Stephen Galasso

Obituary of Stephen L. Galasso

After a long and difficult illness Stephen L. Galasso (Steve) age 74 died on Wednesday April 23 while under hospice care at Highland Hospital. He is predeceased by his grandparents Antonio and Carmela (Leonardi) Falvo, his parents Gerald and Philomena (Falvo) Galasso, his brother Robert Galasso, and sister Patricia Batz (Galasso). He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Barbara (Puorro) Galasso, his niece Amelia Galasso and many cousins and close friends.

Steve was born in Rochester, NY and lived here his entire life. He grew up and went to school at the “new” St. Anthony of Padua school on 60 Lorimer Street. He then went to Aquinas Institute on Dewey Avenue and graduated in the class of 1969. Many of his classmates have continued friendships with him up to the time of his death. He attended St. John Fisher College after high school but left and pursued a career in radio as a recording engineer at WXXI in Rochester. He eventually decided to go back to school at the University of Rochester where he found his life passion for computers and computer science. Some might say he carried that passion to an extreme as no computer was too far gone or too old to be saved. He was generous with his time and skill if anyone needed help with their technology.

He lived the better part of his life in the 10th ward in the house his parents bought in 1962. As a young man he helped his father and brothers rehab the house. As his parents aged, Steve was there helping them age in place. In 2016 after the death of his mother Steve continued living in the home until he was no longer able to live alone where upon he moved to Wolk Manor assisted living in Brighton. He was well liked there and as anyone who knew him knows, his quirky personality and gentle friendliness went a long way.

As per Steve's wishes there will be no wake or services in his honor. In lieu of flowers he suggests visiting someone you love, especially if they are old or sick. He will be missed by all who knew him.
