Obituary of Larry W. McKee
Larry W. McKee
Passed away peacefully with family on March 11, 2025, at age 83. Predeceased by his parents, Roger and Dorthea McKee; Brother, Bruce; Mother of his children, Suzanne McKee. Survived by his loving children, Larry (girlfriend Donna Clements) McKee, Bruce McKee, Christine (David) Cooper, Carolyn (Leon) Prokopenko; Grandsons, Paul and Peter Prokopenko; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Larry graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1959. He went on to the Air Force serving for 4 years. He then found employment through Eastman Kodak where he stayed for 25 years before retiring. While at Kodak, he was extremely well liked. His final position before retirement was a group leader. After his retirement, he drove a bus for the ARC where he was awarded for his calm and professional demeanor with the special needs community who he held with high regard.
Larry loved being physically active. He would often be the life of the party at weddings, dancing for hours. He played baseball, basketball and football on his high school teams. He was recognized a few times by the Elmira Gazette for his basketball talent. Throughout his employment at Kodak, Larry joined the basketball leagues and won tournaments with his team. Larry played basketball until he was 70. He loved walking and being in nature. In his mid-years, he encouraged his children to go on long walks with him. As his physical handicaps increased, Larry still continued being as physically active as his body would allow.
He was a great friend, always giving a listening ear to family and friends. He was always well liked and popular but still always rooted for the underdog. He taught his children to be honest, humble and kind to others no matter their differences.
Larry ended his life believing Jesus is his savior. He showed great strength even in his final days.
Larry’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11am at Parma Christian Fellowship 39 Hovey Street Hilton, NY 14468. Interment private.
