My brother Howard's sudden passing has left an emptiness that words can scarcely express, but I take comfort in the unforgettable memories of him.
Howard had a big heart. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Dana and he was there for so many people, always ready with a helping hand and an ear to listen - that was his way of showing how much he cared. I never heard him speak an unkind word or lose his temper (even when I crashed his car). Every time my sister Betty would visit, she would always express how devoted a brother he was and how much she valued and appreciated his unwavering support as she was undergoing her cancer treatments.
Howard was also always quick to offer a helping hand. Whether it was assembling a ping-pong table (or two), fixing a television, or installing a garage door opener, he always offered his support willingly. His generosity and willingness to help made life easier for so many, and his skill and patience were unmatched.
I am the youngest of the 10 Seitzinger siblings, and Howard and I got along very well, despite the age difference. He used to tease me as a little girl and call me "Millie," my given name, instead of "Darlene," which is the name I go by. It was his way of showing affection, and even as we grew older, those memories remained precious to me.
To me, Howard was more than a brother—he was like a second father. When it came time for me to walk down the aisle, it was Howard who took my hand and stood by my side -a moment I will forever cherish.
Howard also had a competitive side, especially when it came to sports. Whether it was a tennis match or a game of ping-pong, he played with determination and skill, always pushing himself to be the best while sharing in the joy of the game. Steve always enjoyed their friendly yet fierce competitions, a testament to Howard’s love for challenge and camaraderie.
I fondly remember the times we shared, especially the WVOR-sponsored sock hop where we both won best costume awards and Howard and I made it to the finals in the “Twist” dancing competition. To this day, whenever I hear Chubby Checker singing, "You should see my little sis, she really knows how to rock, she knows how to twist," I can’t help but smile and think of Howard.
Rest in peace, big brother. You will be missed beyond words.
With love and remembrance,
Darlene/"Millie" (Your Little Sis)
