To me, he was the uncle who would show up whenever we were doing something sneaky (as kids) and would act mad, but by the end of the scolding we’d realize he was actually joking (I think…).
I admire the way he cherished Bovenzi/Albert family history so much that he researched and recorded our past before ancestry.com was even a thing. I was so grateful when he gave us some cuttings from the family fig tree, which are planted in our yard & growing strong. He thought the warmer climate in MD would be good for them - he was right! I will now be thinking of him as well as grandpa when the figs bloom each spring. It’s a true tie to home.
And lastly, i was always so touched by the Christmas cards that he personally wrote with simple messages of hope and cheer each year. He was a man of strong faith and values, and taught us all that nothing - death, distance, life’s challenges or anything else - can break the bonds of a family built on a foundation of love. Uncle John will be missed, but his legacy truly lives on in all of you and all of us lucky to have known him. Praying for you all in this time of grief.

Sent with love and remembrance. I hope this tree is planted somewhere that it can watch out for bears, as Im sure Mr. Bovenzi would have advised.

John came to the Town of Greece in 2013 as the interim finance director. He was wonderful to work with and was a funny, kindhearted man. I’m sorry for your loss.

Woke up this morning thinking about the black 3 speed bike he had (I think it may still be in the garage) when we were kids. I always wanted to ride that thing but true to form he wouldn’t let anyone touch it. lol. I thought it was the coolest bike ever and have been riding bikes since I was little partly inspired by him and that bike.

He was the exact epitome of what a godfather’s role is. He took me to lunches to discuss life and religion, he sent me a birthday and Christmas card every year with well wishes and a religious note to Sophia and I. I also will never forget his massive video camera at all holidays and being temporarily blinded by the light on it. He is greatly missed.

My favorite memories of Uncle John were at the lake. He would always leave Klondike bars for Eric and I and tell us to watch out for the bears! His jokes and laughter will be remembered and very missed.
