Obituary of Edward M. Markowski
Edward Michael Markowski passed away unexpectedly January 23, 2025. Predeceased by his parents, Edward W. and Emily T. Markowski and his younger brother Michael Markowski. Edward is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pamela Markowski, and their children Sarah Markowski and Ethan Markowski (Lauren Giles). He is also survived by Edward Jr and Jill Markowski, children from a previous marriage.
Ed grew up in Syracuse NY. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force, he worked at Solvay in Syracuse. Ed then took a job at Xerox in Webster, NY. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. After several years at Xerox, he took a bridge and became a school bus driver for Webster CSD for the next 22 years until he retired in 2022.
In his younger days, Ed loved to ski, sail and fish. He was very proud when he became a volunteer fire fighter and EMT with the West Webster Fire Department. Five back operations, two carpal tunnel and a knee replacement ended volunteering with the Fire Department.
Ed was always interested in Astronomy. He prepped for days for the Total Solar Eclipse in April 2024. While the operations greatly reduced his mobility, he tried to maintain the yard. He was thrilled with his electric lawnmower and obsessed with raking leaves.
Ed always claimed he was not a dog person. However, he loved the 2 family dogs (Princess and Buttercup), and they loved him with a passion. Quite often, the 3 of them were napping together. Princess on her back with a foot on his leg and Buttercup next to him or sprawled on the floor at his feet. Ed and Princess used to watch Lawrence Welk together every Saturday night.
We want to thank the staff of the 5th floor ICU at Rochester General Hospital for the outstanding care that he received. Unfortunately, they were unable to stop the progression of his medical crisis. The funeral will be a small private family funeral. His final resting place will be Webster Union Cemetery.
