Fairport: Salvatore (Sam) R. Cocchiara passed away peacefully on October 20, 2019 at the age of 90.
Predeceased by brothers Anthony and Peter Cocchiara, In-laws, Phillip and Ann Cerasoli, John and Winifred Cerasoli, Vincent Cerasoli, Anthony and Marge Cerasoli, Marion and Jerry Eberhardt, Joseph and Felice DiPassio and Charles Yaeger.
Sam was born in Rochester, NY to parents Oscar and Carmella Cocchiara. He attended local schools, served in the U.S. Navy and was also a proud Xerox and UNITE retiree. He enjoyed the love of his family, the game of golf and his weekly breakfasts with his lifelong friends.
Sam will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to all of the caregivers from Touching Hearts and Aaron Manor who gave Sam comfort and provided compassionate care, especially in the last few months.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Cocchiara as well as son Salvatore Cocchiara Jr., daughter Pam (Joe) Carzo and grandchildren, Joseph (Sarah) Carzo, Jacqueline (Michael) Maj, Russell Cocchiara, Rachel Cocchiara (Adam Frate) and great grandson, Michael Joseph Maj. Sister-in-Laws, Mae Cocchiara, Carol Cerasoli and Janet Yaeger as well as many special nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Johns of Rochester, Wickford Way, Fairport Thursday, October 24 at 11:00 AM with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Honor Flight of Rochester or the Alzheimer’s Association.
